When you walk into Tutto Benne (多乐意大利餐厅) expect to be greeted with arias by its gregarious, opera-singing Minnesotan owner. A sculptor and artist by trade, he opened Tutto Benne mainly so he and his artist friends would have a place to hang out. That was thirteen years ago, when it was the only foreign-owned restaurant in town. Now Tutto Bene is a fixture in Xiamen's expat scene, and popular with a wide cross-section of Xiamen locals, too, who come both for the food and the sense of community.
Pastas, pizzas, salads, and steaks make up the bulk of the menu. Coffee, scrumptious deserts, and a well-stocked bar keep customers lingering long after their plates have been cleared. The main floor is bright and filled with flowers and the owners' sculptures. The upper floor displays items from his private collection of 1950s and 1960s Chinese propaganda posters.
