I almost don't want to post a highlight about Gili Trawangan (known as Gili T) as it was a slice of paradise and I don't want it to change. One of the three Gili islands, Gili is the most touristy. Stay near the docks on the strip of hotels and restaurant, and it can get lively but nothing we say that was out of control. We stayed on the north end at Desa Dunia Beda (20 minute walk to town) and it was wonderfully peaceful and quiet. You wake up, walk to the beach outside the hotel, pick your chair or if you're lucky, a bungalow, and settle in for the day. The staff brings you breakfast and drinks and snacks throughout the day. If you're adventurous you may go for a walk or bike ride around the island or perhaps snorkeling with the beautiful fish. Eat dinner, sleep, repeat.
It was just perfect. I have yet to find such a beautiful location, not overcrowded with tourists, with food/drinks/hotels easy to find, and peacefulness (and few mosquitos). I didn't want to go and am already plotting when we will return.
