Trans Siberian Railway

Single Female on the Trans Siberian
Traveling across Russia solo in 2009 I took the Trans-Siberian railway--riding the same rails taken by exiled Russians for years--from Vladivostok to Lake Baikal. I hadn't spoken English for weeks, and it was blisteringly hot in the 3rd class (platskartny) compartments, but I learned more about myself in three days than I have in a lifetime. Make sure you buy the smoked fish from the locals at station stops and take back that shot of Vodka from Sasha-- who will want to marry you and take you back to his village.
