A quiet night in my basement with friends shows how lucky I am to be in Canada, and how lucky I am to have traveled. To be honest, I love alcohol from Asia, and as I was thinking about the things I was drinking I realized how connected the world had become. The sake was brewed in California, the beer was a legacy of the only German colony in China and the vodka was left over from the USSR occupation in Kyrgyzstan – it shows how far global influences reach. Needless to say, the conversation that night never became that deep; and the minute the vodka was opened any conversation has become a distant memory. But it was a great night of Asia colliding in my basement in a small suburb of Toronto.
