Views Galore at Artistic Tomtom Suites in Istanbul
Perched on a hill in a quiet Beyoglu side street, Tomtom Suites offers glorious views of the Istanbul waterfront and Old City across the Golden Horn. (Ask for a front room on the third or fourth floor.) We couldn't help but linger at our roof-terrace breakfast, gazing serenely out across the Sea of Marmara on to the Hagia Sofia and New Mosque, and noticed other guests were too.
However, interior "views" are nearly as picturesque. Walls, tables, and available corners in the public spaces and rooms are graced with colorful and unique paintings, sculptures, and ceramics by local artists. It is THE place for artists and art appreciators to stay in the city. My favorites were the black and turquoise ceramic bowls and platters. This colorful art complements the earth tones of the walls and linens, and original plank wood floors of this 19th century Italianate building.
We fell in love with our room, which was spacious with large entry, sitting room, office area, bedroom space, and huge bathroom with a jacuzzi and done in Italian marble. Decor included vibrant paintings and the gorgeous black and turquoise ceramics.
Our warm, impeccably mannered, and discrete staff welcomed us into the intimate and soothing atmosphere and immediately put us at ease after our long trip. This special care continued throughout our visit there. By the end of our week, we felt we had made friends and will definitely stay there again when in Istanbul.
(We recommend their restaurant, La Mouette.)
