If you find yourself on the Annapurna Circuit, and you're not too weathered from the cold or the high altitude, consider a side trip to Lake Tilicho.
The trip is a grueling three hour trek up to 4,919 meters, just shy of the 5,416 you'll clear at Throng La Pass. You'll have to gamble with yak for rights to the trekking path and test your balance on the gravel landslide territory, but hopefully you stashed a couple extra snickers in your pack to power you to the top.
Now you have bragging rights for making it to the highest lake on earth. Photograph surrounding peaks - Nilgiri, Khangsar and Muktinath, and watch as Idam Phra glacier feeds into the glowing blue body of water. Then, enjoy the easy, breezy trek back to base camp where momos and masala tea await.
