Thorvaldsens Museum
Artist Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844) grew up in Copenhagen but spent most of his career in Rome, where there was huge demand for his neoclassical sculptures. His tomb for Pope Pius VIII is the only piece by a non-Italian artist to have been commissioned for St. Peter’s Basilica. He returned to Denmark as a hero, and visiting this museum dedicated to his works is like stepping back into the 19th century.
