Unwind in a thermal bath tucked away in Peru's high rainforest
We almost didn't make it to this place. We took the (very) early morning train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Piccu. Watched the fog clear and the majestic mountain reveal itself. After a few hours we decided to go back to Aguas Calientes to eat (total tourist trap). Then realized we still had 7 hours to kill until we took the (very) late train home. We walked up hill to the shabby entrance of the thermal baths and were a bit put off...dont let that fool you. After you pay the small entrance fee (and rent a towel), you walk up more hill with a rushing river beside you, the lush foliage is unreal. Then you enter into this wild, hippy bar with dream catchers and textiles and are transported into a weird place. You buy a beer, and make your way to the pools. We ended up meeting this crazy hippy local named Donato. As the sun set the baths filled with people from around the world who just returned from Machu Piccu. It was pretty dreamy being in this misty place, surrounded by all walks of life, high in the rainfroest. Glad we made it, or else I would have missed one of my fondest moments.
