Though the room smelled like a cross between mildew and my grandmother's perfume, the location of this resort is killer. Only a 10 minute taxi or shuttle ride from the Las Vegas-esque glitz of modern Macau, the Westin feels like you're on a secluded tropical beach (Hac Sa Beach to be exact). For some people, Macau is all about the glitz - for me, it was awesome to be able to experience a humbler slice of Coloane Macau life.
The breakfast, which was included with our stay, was oh-so-delicious - the congee condiment bar has yet to be rivaled in my China exploits.
The best part is the proximity to renowned Portuguese restaurant Fernando's - only a 20 minute stroll down the beach (beware of wild dogs) and a perfect distance for the kiddies to get out some energy but not quite long enough to illicit whiny "up"(s) from the littlest littles (ours is 2). We enjoyed the whole experience so much that we went back a second night.
The Westin is well priced, has a complementary shuttle into Casino land, and what looked to be a pretty sweet pool. But honestly, the one part that will keep us coming back is the location.
