This West Texas dance hall has absolutely no pretensions, and that’s exactly why it is so beloved. Hoyle Nix first built the hall in 1954, but never got around to finishing it. What was more important to him and the hall’s patrons was the music and so propane heaters still heat the space in the winter and the floor is rippled from years of dancing. Today Hoyle’s band, the Texas Cowboys, is now led by his son Jody and perform at twice-monthly “homecoming dances” which are BYOB.
