Exploring Chiang Mai's Nightly Markets
Choosing Chiang Mai as a weekend getaway ended up being a smart move. Why? Well, first off, the flight fares were reasonable (I booked via Flight Centre Hong Kong). Second, if you're a bargain hunter like me and aren't easily intimidated by crowds, night markets are a must. There are three main night markets in Chiang Mai: Saturday Night Walking Street along Wualai Road and the Sunday Night Walking Street along Rachadamnoen Road and of course, the Night Bazaar open seven days a week. Since I was only in town for 48 hours, I checked out all three. My personal favorite was Sunday's market because it was the most lively. There were talented street performers, flavorful street food and some pretty unique souvenirs for sale. The festivities start around sunset and conclude later in the night, around midnight. Even if you're not in the shopping mood, it's an interactive way to experience local life. Plus, a few of the temples are beautifully illuminated by night.
