Travel isn’t always easy, thats part of the game, but once in a while a hotel makes you feel like home and everything just fits into place. Luxury hotels, for most of us, are an extravagant splurge. So if you’re going all in, stay at The Majestic in Barcelona. The location on the Passeig de Gràcia is catty-corner to a Gaudi masterpiece, the Casa Batlló, and situated near some bars and restaurants frequented by locals that can get one off the tourist beat within a block or two. After a hectic week in Spain and still recovering from New Year’s Eve, it was such a treat to relax in a suite overlooking one of the grandest boulevards in Europe, Christmas lights still twinkling through the blinds. The rooftop bar and pool was a bit chilly for January, but I can imagine spending a glorious afternoon on the deck in summertime. The staff was helpful, kind and all spoke English, a godsend for me at the end of a long week of speaking in broken German, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. As if that weren’t enough, the Dalai Lama himself has stayed here. Somehow I have a hunch his suite was larger than mine.
