Dig Into Fresh California Food at the Lark
The Lark is easily the best restaurant in the Funk Zone: The food is fresh, seasonal, and local, the dishes surprising yet always comforting, and the portions sizes generous (a rarity in this era of tiny plates). My perfect day in Santa Barbara ends on the patio here, lingering over, say, deviled eggs and a roasted beet and strawberry salad, followed by roast chicken with black pepper grits. Two pieces of advice: Never skip dessert, which tends to be off-the-charts creative (think doughnuts with spring pea ice cream and lime curd) and, if a jam cocktail appears on the menu, order it!
