Step aside pyramids at Giza! Getting to spend a day with locals is much more fun! My husband and I love taking cooking classes when we travel abroad because we love food and interacting with locals. We spent the morning at the pyramids, which is of course an iconic experience...but we remember this more fondly. Madam Anhar and her daughter are sweet and very knowledgeable. Their instructions are easy to follow and they are willing to send you home with many many recipes! We did the "I Love Egypt: Option One". I especially loved the kofta and the mint lime drink. Madam Anhar teaches you a secret to get your kofta fluffier than the restaurant kofta, but I promised to not reveal it. Plan on spending at least a half day. It Is a bit out of the city so plan on maybe an hour drive if traffic is bad, and traffic is often terrible. Get a good taxi driver who has working AC. I was in my second trimester of pregnancy when we did this class and was still pretty sick. They were very accommodating and understanding.
