The Hanging Church

Kom Ghorab, Misr Al Qadimah, Cairo Governorate, Egypt

Cairo exists in a constant state of organized chaos, but one place where I found some much needed tranquility was at Saint Virgin Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church, otherwise known as the Hanging Church. One of the oldest churches in Africa, it’s built over the remnants of an ancient Roman fortress, where it hangs. The spiritual home of Egypt’s Coptic community, everyone is welcome to tour the beautiful grounds and church, enjoying a few moments of peace and quiet in the middle of Old Cairo.
