Wooden gangway leading from the entrance to the reception area of the fantastic Governor's Residence hotel in Yangon, Myanmar. Once the official home of the governors of the British Crown Colony of Burma, this is one of the only 5-star hotels in all of Myanmar and is run by the Swiss company that runs the Orient Express. Fabulous rooms, grounds and service (and the restaurant is fantastic, a relative rarity in Myanmar, where the local fare often leaves much to be desired). The Residence is an oasis that is a welcome place to return to after various side-trips to lesser-developed areas within the country--highly recommended!

Colonial Teak Mansion turned Hotel
This wonderful refurbished teak 1920's mansion is one of the best place's to stay in the Yangon.
It is located in the embassy quater, which is full of grand residences and treelined streets.
The grounds and pool make the stay here magical.
It's worth the extra money you will spend and far exceeds The Strand.
