I had taken part in the whole sea turtle experience before; snorkelling with them, watching a mother lay her eggs, holding disoriented hatchlings--I thought I had seen and done it all. Until Barbados.
The moment I came face to face with that massive moving body under water I knew that it was an entirely different experience.
The water around me was littered with chunks of fish meat hovering in the water waiting to be scooped up by the group of hungry turtles that circled around me. They didn't care that I was there and I can assure you that I was more afraid of them than they were of me. I knew they weren't going to hurt me, but there is something eerie about several large bodied animals swimming around you in the open ocean.
They swam close enough for me to touch again and again, almost as if to ask me for more food. It was an incredible experience that is definitely at the top of my list of all time Caribbean moments.
My turtle feeding boat trip was arranged from The Club Barbados Resort & Spa.
