During my stay in Medellin, I stayed at The Charlee, a posh lifestyle hotel in the heart of the trendy El Poblado neighborhood. Mere blocks from designer boutiques, fine dining and Lleras Park, it was the perfect place to explore this emerging fashion capital.
Depending on your interests, the Charlee has a lot to offer: an expansive Ultra Wellness Center, Lucia Restaurant, and weekly live salsa nights at the luxurious ENVY rooftop lounge to name a few.
As a true design hotel, each room is impeccably furnished. The five star hotel has 42-room in all, each with a spacious terrace that overlooks the bustling nightlife below. Room décor veers toward modern but there’s a unique and very chic flair about each accent.
One of the more unique features of The Charlee, and one I definitely took advantage of, are their interactive travel experiences offered to guests. Among these is a fashion tour led by a local style influencer who delves into the creative design scene in Medellín. Another is an immersive street art tour of Comuna 13 led by a local artist. All in all, these tours are helpful in giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look at local cultural, culinary and entertainment.
Even if you never leave the hotel, you’ll still learn a lot about the local art and fashion scene. For example, the property commissioned several Medellín-based street artists to paint murals on the walls near the staircase. As an art fan myself, this was extra motivation to skip the elevator and take the stairs. There are also art showcases on various floors (in the form of wall art). Some are permanent collections while others rotate every few months to feature up-and-coming artists.
