For a weekend getaway from the DMV, cross over the Chesapeake Bay bridge to Maryland's eastern shore to Ocean City. A three hour drive from the nation's capital, this beach town is busiest from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Arrive early in the morning, as street parking is limited and parking lots can range from $15 on up. In addition of Tangier Outlet mall and beach merchandise vendors like Ron Jon Surf Shop, there's plenty of local establishments which have been around over half a century. Make sure to bring sunscreen if you decide on walking the 3-mile long boardwalk. Dotted along the beach front are Italian pizzerias, Dolle's Salt Water Taffy, Thrasher's French Fries, and Dumser's ice cream. If you're still wanting more after shopping, playing beach volleyball, and swimming in the ocean, then head on to the pier and ride the roller coasters. It'll be an unforgettable time and one where you can still make it back to either D.C. or Baltimore before dinner time.
