The Big Texan Steak Ranch

7701 I-40 East, Amarillo, TX 79118, USA

Have you ever driven through Amarillo and seen the signs for the free 72oz steak? Well don’t be fooled -- it actually is free!! But you must finish the whole dinner in under an hour, on stage, while everyone else can watch and gawk. The Big Texan Steak Ranch is an iconic piece of Texas history. If you’re a native Texan, you’ve heard of it and have likely been there. Me, I’ve been there twice. This most recent time, I was accompanied by a Floridian whose eyes got the size of dinner plates and mouth dropped to the floor when we ate dinner at this Texas sized restaurant. The food is great and the atmosphere gives Texas its known slogan (the friendly state) but get ready to share a meal or loosen that belt. Do you like typical Texan styled food like fried catfish, fried shrimp, steaks and the works? Oh you’ll love to eat here then. Vegetarian ? There’s quesadillas. But that’s about it because I feel that term doesn’t exactly register in most folks vocabulary. Either way, you must stop here to get your picture with the longhorn, play in the arcade, try some microbrews, get yourself from Texas souvenirs and perhaps even wander past that 72oz steak on display... You can even stay in their antique western style hotel! You won’t be disappointed in the good ole time to be had at this fun and entertaining place along the old Route 66.
