The Thanlwin Guesthouse satisfies the obvious need for quality budget accommodations in Yangon and offers friendly service in a clean and relaxed environment. Its Burmese/ French owners are thoughtful and provide excellent travel advice and suggestions for visitors.
The guesthouse is located in a remodeled colonial mansion, along a quiet suburban street in Yankin Township (behind the Sedona Hotel). Attractions within walking distance include Inya Lake, Aung San Su Kyi’s residence and the Pearl Condo area where a variety of local- and Western-oriented restaurants and bars can be found. Just a few blocks away on Kabar Aye Road is a bus stop where guests can catch an inexpensive (but potentially crowded!) ride directly downtown to Sule Pagoda, Scott Market, and other city highlights.
The guesthouse has several dormitory options (male, female or mixed dorms) as well as private double rooms (with en-suite bathrooms) for couples or others who wish to have their own space. All the rates include breakfast, which is served daily in the front garden/open-air café. If you’re traveling on a budget and planning to visit Yangon then there is no question - this is where you should be staying!
