Mount Kailash in Tibet
Mount Kailash, Asia's holiest mountain also known as the abode of Lord Shiva, which is revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and the ancient Bon religion of Tibet. Near the base of this mountain rises four great Rivers the Indus, the Sutlej, the Karnali and the Brahmaputra which drain the dry Tibetan plateau. The peak is also sacred to Bonism the site where its founder is said to have descended from heaven. Bon believers circumambulate Mt. Kailash in a counterclockwise manner. Buddhist, Hindu and Jain pilgrims walk in the opposite direction.
