Tea at the Fairmont

One of San Francisco's landmark hotels, the Fairmont opened one year after the 1906 earthquake. The stately property atop Nob Hill has been one of the grande dames of the city ever since, while afternoon tea in the Laurel Court, a luxe domed room with marble columns and crystal chandeliers, has also become somewhat of a local tradition. Scones and pastries are given the occasional California twist (like a Dungeness-crab-salad tea sandwich). While the Fairmont has long been the hotel of choice for afternoon tea in the Bay Area, the newer Ritz-Carlton just down the hill has its own loyal following.
