For nearly 30 years, the Taste of Cayman Food Festival has been pleasing palates while raising money for the Cayman Islands Tourism Association-- who can resist a delicious fund raiser featuring local specialties?
A few dozen restaurateurs join in on the festivities, cooking up their specialties, and the tourism association hosts special events, such as the heavy cake competition. Not a weightlifting contest, the heavy cake is a super-sweet Cayman Island dessert whose main binding ingredient is the root vegetable, cassava. Using recipes and techniques handed down by previous generations, contestants vie for the title of best heavy cake baker.
The festival is held each January at Cayman Brac.
