Sponge Worthy St Nicholas Boatline
St Nicholas Boat Line at first may seem like another cheesy tourist attraction in the heart of the Sponge Docks in Tarpon Springs, however, it's actually an informative & fun 40 minute boat ride all about sponge diving. Once on the boat, Clay ( also known as the Cajun guy), will give a fun 10 minute presentation on the history of sponge diving in Tarpon Springs before introducing Frank, a very personable diver who is suited up in vintage diving gear. After boating about 100 yards out, Frank demonstrates how sponge harvesting was done in the good old days. If you're lucky, he'll even bring up a fresh sponge from his dive and let you touch the slimy thing. ; If you're looking to escape the heat or just to learn a little more about the area, I highly recommend taking this short but fun boat ride with a wonderful crew!
