In the late afternoon we enter the forest of Tangkoko, searching for the magnificent Strangler Figs as the sun descends beyond the wide ocean horizon. We go in search of Tarsier, a tiny primate that spends its day sleeping inside the trees and emerges in the evening to feed on insects. They emerge slowly, taking their time in the shadows of the tangled ficus roots. They groom and stretch, and survey the forest beyond. Then they leap rapidly from tree to tree, disappearing into the darkness.
