Just a couple of hours drive from Nairobi (depending on how bad the traffic at Athi River is) and a further couple of hours to Amboselli should you want a day trip (which you won’t – you will not want to leave, ever) Tandala House is nestled in a secret location with beautiful views of the Maparasha hills. What makes the place special is the higglydy-piggldy-ness of it all. There are secret doors behind bookshelves, hidden corridors, cosy reading nooks and even a sneaky roof terrace. There are five gorgeous bedrooms, one with its own incredible outdoor bathroom, and one which is underneath the pool (!). And, as if that wasn’t enough, there are TAME WARTHOGS who come right up to the house for food. They bend down on their knees to get closer to the food scattered on the grass, but keep their bottoms and poker-straight tails comically stuck in the air! Amazing.
