You need a little luck to catch Tako Kyuuban Takoyaki in action. One Friday afternoon, I went to the Asian supermarket Uwajimaya in Bellevue and happened upon this stand, which turns out the popular Japanese street snack takoyaki. They're basically small dumplings with diced octopus (tako) inside. I stood mesmerized by the quick action and deft hands required to make these little gems. By the time I ordered six, I noticed a long line had formed. In addition to octopus, my takoyaki also had dried shrimp, pickled ginger, and green onions inside and was topped with smoked fish flakes, dried seaweed, and mayo. Tako Kyuuban Takoyaki only comes to the Bellevue Uwajimaya a few times a month; check its Facebook page for upcoming dates.
