Chinese culture has had a tremendous influence on modern Taiwan, from language to customs to art. The mission of the TaipeiEye Foundation is to recognize this influence and to expose foreign guests to some of the more dramatic forms of Chinese high art. The specialty is the Chinese Opera regularly staged as a way to make this sometimes misunderstood performance style more relatable, especially to overseas guests. Before the show, the actors assemble in the lobby to apply their complicated makeup and costumes. During the live performance, the dialogue and even the songs are translated into multiple languages, including English. While not for everyone, the performances are the best way to better understand the fine art of Chinese Opera.
