Accessible only by boat, Taha’a is enclosed in a common lagoon with Raiatea. It’s a sleepy island that maintains an authentic Polynesian flavor. It’s also where you’ll find Motu Mahana, Paul Gauguin Cruises’ private island. Cruise guests get a special introduction to traditional local culture during a concert performed by Les Gauguines, a troupe of Tahitian musicians. A beachside barbecue is also on the agenda, complete with tropical drinks. The floating lagoon bar lets guests relax in the water while sipping a piña colada or mai tai from a coconut.
On-island activities include volleyball, badminton, snorkeling, and kayaking. Les Gauguines and the cruise line’s onboard experts lead tutorials in cooking, basket weaving, and pareo tying tutors. That still leaves you with plenty of time for an overwater massage from The Gauguin’s Deep Nature Spa by Algotherm or browsing for authentic souvenirs like vanilla, produced here in droves.
