It was a quiet September day in Pyongyang. As part of a North Korea tour, we were fishing on the Taedong River alongside veteran fishermen. It's unusual here to see foreigners doing such local activities, which is why it's the best possible way to experience North Korea.
We had an amazing time drinking soju and Pyongyang beer (try the Taedonggang Beer, better than the rest), sharing stories with our North Korean friends and taking tips from our North Korean driver on the best fishing techniques. We followed this up by boating on the Taedong River as we saw the sun set and the flame of the Juche Tower burn bright.
