Fresh local produce combined with classic cooking techniques gives this traditional French bistro a West Coast Canadian edge. Just a few blocks from Coal Harbor, the location can't be beat. For something light, fresh, and French, try the endive and pear salad with blue cheese and hazelnuts.

A Modern French Secret In Vancouver
Tableau is a French bistro located within the Loden Hotel on quiet Melville Street in Vancouver's Coal Harbour. The food combines a classic French cooking style with West Coast ingredients. Excellent cocktails, delectable food, and even cute French accented servers, it's a Francophile's fantasy. Come for lunch, dinner or their popular weekend brunch.
Apparently the Loden was one of the first boutique hotels in Vancouver. I don't know what template they used, but it works very well—smart, modern, huge rooms, and a really good level of service.
What's particularly nice about it its restaurant, Tableau Bar and Bistro. Unpretentious but really good food, and a new house cocktail each month. It's in Coal Harbour, so it's a good option outside the usual Gastown haunts. Oh and the mushroom on toast is to die for.
