VIVID Sydney
Billed as the world’s largest festival of lights, music, and ideas, VIVID Sydney is a one-of-a-kind celebration of innovation in a city that embraces creativity. More than 1.7 million people attended in 2015, drawn by a lineup of 500 speakers as well as some 70 bands and more than 200 DJs. The popularity of the event has led its organizers to extend it for an additional five nights in 2016. Now a 23-day festival, it will run from May 27 to June 18. Even more than the musical performances and speakers, VIVID Sydney stands out for its light installations. From 6 p.m. each night, light installations and projections illuminate the world famous Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, Taronga Zoo and precincts including The Rocks historical district, Walsh Bay, Martin place and the facades of countless buildings in the city—even the ships crossing the harbor—become the backdrop for installations by the most innovative lighting designers and artists. During VIVID Sydney, once the sun sets, the entire city is transformed into a colorful, glowing work of art.
