Dining by the Sea
One of the most appealing aspects of the aquatic lifestyle in New South Wales is the number of restaurants on the water’s edge, where your fresh-caught entrée will be paired with ocean breezes. Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race and Air New Zealand spokesman, recommends whetting your appetite with a visit to the source: the Sydney Fish Market. “This is where the best chefs in Sydney come to pick up their key ingredients,” he says. “It’s a good idea to follow them back to the kitchen and treat yourself to a tasty dish. I’m a big fan of Flying Fish Restaurant and Bar, but you will be spoiled for choices.” In Sydney’s Circular Quay area, Altitude, Aqua Dining, and Café Sydney are a few perennial favorites; other nearby options include Catalina, at Rose Bay, and family-run Doyles on the Beach, at Watsons Bay. The same family has operated Doyles for five generations, serving up catch-of-the-day seafood from its location overlooking Sydney Harbour.
