Believe it or not, New York City has amazing fried chicken spots, and Sweet Chick on the Lower East Side and in Williamsburg is a gem among them. One of my favorite dishes is their weekend-only special chicken and “foieffles”—fried chicken, duck fat maple syrup, and waffles with foie gras packed inside them—and many of their other specials are similarly creative. Menu items include “sloppy duck” sliders and crawfish hush puppies. The restaurant is informal, friendly and perpetually crowded.
