I lived in Sweden for nearly a year shortly after I graduated from high school. Sundsvall is a beautiful town that is located near to where I lived. I really enjoy visiting places with unique stories behind each building, and walking on streets that others have walked on hundreds of years ago. Needless to say, this town captured my attention with each buildings beautiful architecture and of course the personable Swedes working in each coffee shop. The first time I ever went to this city my friends informed me that the entire city had burned down a total of four times since its discovery. I was in complete shock, unable to imagine the work it must have taken to rebuild these remarkable buildings over and over again. What a pain! The Swedes finally learned after the last fire that it might be best to rebuild each structure with stone. The downtown area is actually now referred to as "stenstaden" which is Swedish for "the stone city."
