Wandering Through Sultan's Carpets--A lesson in textiles
One of my favorite shops in Kapadokya is Sultan's Carpets located in Goreme. If you happen to be in the area, say hi to my friend, the modern day Suffi, Shemsettin Kantar, or Semse as he likes to be called. International interior designer obsessed with thematic designs ranging from Ottoman classics to gypsy, nomadic tribes, Kurdish, Armenian, etc--Semse knows carpets and textiles like no one else. His pieces are all from Nomadic villages in the East, and all hand made. The place has an incredible ambiance. Definitely worth the wander, and also well worth a cup of tea and conversation with Semse and his friends.
