Sugar Sweet Sunshine

New York's Best Sweet Spot
There are no lines wrapping around the corner of Rivington Street waiting for entrance to this Lower East Side Gem. It doesn't have the hype of Carlos' Bake Shop in Hoboken, featured on TLC's Cake Boss, and it didn't get fame as the neighborhood bakery of Carrie Bradshaw and her crew on Sex and The City. Thankfully, Sugar Sweet Sunshine is still a hidden treasure, which means you can walk right in, no line, and begin your journey towards sweet enlightenment. Started by two best friends in aprons, you feel as if you've wandered into your grandmother's- or better yet, your fairy godmother's- kitchen. The desserts aren't striving to look perfect, neatly arranged or perfectly coiffed. Cakes and cupcakes are topped with frosting clouds and bejeweled with dainty crystals, each expressing its own style and beckoning you take it home with you. The lesser-known treat: the pudding selection. Delight yourself in flavors like banana pudding, their chocolate-bomb and my personal favorite: chocolate chip extravaganza. And the most beautiful thing: indulge all you want! After all, New York is a waking city.
