'Hot pot' and cold pilsner at a local street eatery
Chongqing municipality is hot. In summer, the skies are clear but the temperature is sweltering. Chongqing food is famed to be some of the spiciest in the world.
This National Day holiday (early October) I went to visit a couple of friends who teach at a local middle school in Wulong--a small city two hours east of Chongqing city.
After a couple hours exploring the city, we were ready for some good eats and a cold one or three. Wulong's main drag has many small restaurants with street-side seating (the address above is not precise, but was the best I could do). Just find one that serves the local oil hot pot, which is different from the typical soup hot pot and is served in a flat pan with oil. The place that also serves pilsner is a good choice. Get a tower of it, because you'll need it to get through the pot of spicy deliciousness. We also saw a place that serves PBR. You can choose your ingredients for the pot, but follow the server's advice and be sure to order the white beans.
