The brand permeates the décor, beers, and happenings as well as the name at Strangeways Brewing.
The primate perched on a barrel always oversees my visits to this realm of surprising but welcoming elements, where I come to drink their newest creation, chat with friends, or soak in live music.
Among the 25 beers on tap between the two bars – in the front tasting room and the back – you’re sure to find something you enjoy. The beers here introduce many customers to uncommon styles: grisette, gose, bière de garde, and Berliner weisse. Those brews that fit into a style often deviate, intentionally, from hard-and-fast guidelines.
Sour and tart are a common theme at Strangeways, as are unusual added ingredients. The additions may come in the beer – like coconut sugar in Stingo, peppers in Vatos Muertos, and mamey sapote in Soledad.
At the front bar, you find the current Strangeways creations, like the Albino Monkey Belgian White Ale, Phantasmic East Coast IPA, Woodbooger Belgian-Style Brown Ale, Wild Wallonian Dawn Honey Saison, and Wampus Cat Triple IPA.
The back bar hosts the Compendium of Curiosities, featuring the current beers infused with delightful complementary ingredients.
Strangeways is open seven days a week. Local food trucks are often available to provide solid sustenance. Ongoing special events include live music, Cards Against Humanity, trivia games, special releases, and even an occasional Brews and Burlesque.
