Upon arriving in Helsinki, two things were fairly apparent. Firstly, design is everywhere. It's no wonder that Finland's capital city earned the title of Design Capital of the World in 2012. I also noticed a sincere appreciation for the environment.
On my third day in Helsinki, I ventured into a suburb called Central Pasila. Located along the train tracks is a Turntable, one of several outdoor restaurants in Helsinki. What makes these turntables different is that they serve food made from organic ingredients and herbs raised on site.
While this concept is fairly new in some parts of the world, this seems to be a way of life for Helsinki. The day I went to visit there was a young group of co-workers spending their lunch break here; their bikes just a few feet away.
