Starry, starry nights in Dusseldorf
For the Advent season, Dusseldorf's Old Town neighborhoods put on a varied show. The Sternchenmarkt (Little Star Market), in the inner courtyard of Wilhelm-Marx-Haus is lined with huts flashing crystal chandeliers and starbursts of blue. It's a cozy square, filled with merry-makers. For four weeks each year, visitors can look forward to mulled wine, roasted nuts, handcrafted jewelry and other gift items, even home furnishings. A children's carousel goes in its circles on the edge of the square. The atmospheric Little Star Market is a great place to meet friends at the center bar station for a mug of Glühwein, or to try Riebkuchen, the local take on potato fritters. The Reibkuchen come with a variety of toppings--apple sauce, garlic, black bread--or a local favorite, molasses. This a must-visit market in Christmassy Dusseldorf!
