Attending a St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland
I had the great honor and privilege of not only being in Dublin for St. Patrick's Festivities in 2013 but also of being in the parade. This has been dubbed the year of the Gathering for the Irish Diaspora and others who love her emerald rolling hills to come and be welcomed home. The excitement in the massive crowd was infectious and despite a snowy start and rainy end to the day, no one's spirit was dampened.
This photo was taken as I crossed the River Liffey, the ancient body of water that splits the city of Dublin into North and South. There was an ocean of green gear stretched out in either direction - scarves, leprechaun hats, shamrock shades, and some wearing various greens from head to toe. Shouts of, "Happy St. Patrick's Day!", rose high into the air and smiles and waves were passed between strangers as if we all were old friends reunited. If you go and you're lucky, you may even see dear St. Patrick, himself.
Experiencing the St. Patrick's Parade in Dublin is one that should go on your bucket list. I can't wait to go to another!
