In the lake District, a church built of over 2000 years of history
The best part of the visit to St. Michael's Church is the pride and warmth of the local townspeople as they share with you the important piece of history their tiny church played in English history.
A gentleman actually ran out of his yard to walk with us through the grounds and provide details on it's construction and legacy.
The original church was built in around 1200 out of stones from Hadrian's wall. King Edward I died in Burgh by Sands and laid in state in the church in 1307.
It's well worth the 10 minute break in the wall walk to peak inside.
