Like all self-respecting Francophones, Quebecer's take well-being (bien-être) and relaxation (détente) seriously. So naturally we welcomed the Scandinavian Spa when it opened just outside of town. This a true Nordic-style spa based on the ritual of bathing in alternating cycles between hot and cold.
Visitors go from the Finnish sauna or Norwegian steam bath in the rustic glass-fronted chalet to a seconds-long plunge under a waterfall or in the freezing river (which may or may not still have chunks of ice floating in it). Your mood goes from exhilaration to extreme relaxation. Ultimately you feel as thick and droopy and lovely as a bowl of French Canadian pea soup.
If you happen to be relaxing in the chalet around 4 p.m. don't be surprised if some deer poke their face up at the window—that's feeding time for them at the spa. You can make a reservation through your hotel, Tremblant's multi-purpose activity center, or the spa directly.
