Fiji's South Sea Island is the kind of island most children will draw when they think of a tropical island. Surrounded by turquoise waters, this white sandy beach is covered with coconut trees and hammocks, making it an idyllic setting for a day trip.
South Sea Island is one of the easiest islands to get to from the mainland of Viti Levu, just a 30 minute boat journey from Denarau Marina. It's close enough for minimal travel time, yet isolated enough for maximum island vibes.
A full-day cruise includes boat transfers, most drinks and a buffet lunch and use of non-motorised water sports equipment such as kayak and snorkelling gear.
Just off the beach you'll find some excellent snorkelling spots, but to really enjoy South Sea Island at its best, head deeper underwater.
The Reef Safari dive centre on the island offers introductory dives for those who have never tried scuba diving before, as well as boat trips further out for certified divers. Diving is a relaxed affair on this island, where everything is on Fiji time - except for boarding time.
You'll see plenty of different marine life including schools of snapper, curious anemone fish, triggerfish, blue starfish, giant clams, a moray eel and if you're lucky, turtles.
