In Oudtshoorn, on the Western Cape of South Africa, I discovered a little farm where, among other activities, ostrich rides are on offer.
Believe me, it's not as easy as it sounds. First the poor critter's head and eyes were covered with something resembling a sock. Then three men hoisted me on top of the animal. When the sock is removed, the ostrich goes simply insane, running around in circles, attempting every maneuver to get rid of me.
Meanwhile, I, too, felt the insanity. My heart was racing a mile a minute, my hands were sweating, and I was doing all I possibly could just to keep from falling off.
The whole adrenaline-filled episode lasted no more than a minute.
