I have been a regular at the chic Soul Gastrolounge since my first visit more than five years ago. A DJ provides great sound, and the entire staff is always incredibly helpful and friendly. Soul is located in Plaza Midwood, a great part of town with vintage shops, a wine bar / art gallery (located directly below Soul), a fantastic bakery, and other great eateries all within walking distance.
When it comes to food, I am often a creature of habit. If I love it, why change it? At Soul, I almost always order a gin martini, the white bean and goat cheese dip, and the Soul Roll (spicy salmon, white tuna, wasabi aioli, and jalepeño – it’s perfect every time). But there’s a lot more on the menu than just dips and sushi. They have incredible tapas and panini sandwiches. And if you’re ever craving bone marrow, they serve that, too!
A friend of mine told me recently that Soul has amazing brunch. So last Sunday, I went with my wife and brother-in-law. My brother-in-law had french toast stuffed with fresh fruit and cream cheese, my wife had a biscuit (yes, that was her entire meal – she’s a bit of a biscuit connoisseur), and I had chicken & waffles (I’m ashamed to say that although I’ve lived in the south for many years, this is the first time I’ve enjoyed this popular southern breakfast). It was all delicious!
