Soaking Up the Sound of Silence in Sölktäler Naturepark
At the very end of a valley, tucked below super-steep, spruce-filled mountain slopes, the Schwarzensee (Black Lake) offers the ultimate in meditative possibilities. It’s the largest of several waterfall-fed lakes in Styria’s Sölktäler Nature Park, and its surrounding meadows are bursting with narcissus, carniverous sundew, and plants galore that attract birds and bees. There’s not a chair lift in sight in this section of the Schladming Tauern mountain range, which includes views of the enormous stone-roof peak Dachstein.
