Painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, the frescoes on the Sistine Chapel ceiling are considered some of the finest art ever produced. These religious paintings include nine scenes from the Book of Genesis, of which The Creation of Adam is undoubtedly the most iconic.

Michaelangelo's masterpiece - Sistine Chapel Ceiling

When I walked into the World’s largest Church, I had two feelings : I felt lucky and exhilarated. But when I started walking under the epitome of Renaissance art, I had a feeling that has no defination or boundaries. The Biblical narration of Creation of human kind, the downfall and salvation illuminating on the top my head and as far as I could see is a work of wonder. It is a work of God for me. The creation of the Frescoes on the Chapel ceiling is magical, it is a work of divine concentration and it makes me feel proud to be born and to be able to see it. It is a must see on the bucket list!

Breaking the Law in Vatican City

No, you are still not allowed to take photographs of the Sistine Chapel while visiting Vatican City. Yes, I did it anyway just to try and capture the awesomeness of the accomplishment by good ol’ Michelangelo. Like so many incredible artistic creations in this world, there are some that you simply must see for yourself to fully comprehend. The Sistine Chapel is one of them. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but you need at least a thousand more pictures of this place to describe it at all. Or, you can just go.

No Pictures lady

Apparently you should not take pictures, but how could you not take them. It is beautiful

Vatican City Around Christmas

As a Roman Catholic, I have read about the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica my entire life. I was moved to be there after the birth of Jesus and during a time of change with Pope Francis leading the church. It is a great time as it is not crowded with tourists but Italians visiting their beloved church. I went into the square and took a tour from a nice lady. They bring you out of the square which may seem shady but this is how they group the people and take you to an entrance to not stand in the crazy lines. Do not pay more than 45 euros which pays for access to the Vatican museums......the tour is great because you receive info that you may not know about like where Michaelangelo is painted in one of the Raphael rooms. The Sistine Chapel will also bring tears to your eyes at the beauty and miracle of this great art by Michaelangelo! St. Peter’s Basilica is the last part of the tour. Take the time to pray and take in the beauty and details of this great church. Finally, ask a Swiss guard for a picture admiring their uniform, devotion, and celibacy to the Roman Catholic Church!

Exquisite But No Photos Allowed

In July 2010, my son’s high school honor choir had the extraordinary opportunity to sing in the Sistine Chapel during a half-hour private tour. There were 32 students in the mixed choir and about twice as many adult relatives & chaperones. When the singing concluded, many of us were in tears. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
